Welcome !

susan schulherrI am Susan Schulherr, a licensed social work psychotherapist. I’ve been working with individuals and couples in the New York City area for over 30 years.

This is a very exciting time to be considering psychotherapy. The fields of neuroscience and attachment theory have added new ways to think about how people develop problems—and how they get better! For example, we now know that everyone—including you!—has the basic genetic equipment to be able to flourish and grow. However, past experience may have interfered with your own optimal pathway. To me, an important part of both individual and couples therapy is the creation of an environment in which the seeds of possibility, already in you, can take root and develop. For individuals, the growth-promoting environment is a safe, supportive working relationship between us. If you come as a couple, I will help you become the growth-promoting environment for each other.
